Greetings from Virginia!
Thank you for your interest in the Kismet herd of purebred Nubians. My breeding program has always been aimed to produce structurally correct animals coupled with does that can stand the stress of showing while maintaining solid milk production. I have line bred on Smooth Operator and Marvin sons and out crossed to superior sires. For the last three years I have successfully AI'd several top does and now have two Smooth daughters back in my herd that I'm very excited about.
The last few years have been hard after the loss of my husband, Jennings. He was a great support when it came to the goats and my daughter, Anne Marie, has stepped in to help fill his position in caring for the goats. Thanks Anne Marie! I have downsized the herd quite a bit and hope to keep it that way. As you know that is sometimes very hard because every kidding season there are those special kids that are born to tempt us. We still have an excess of milk every year and have raised pigs and calves to keep from wasting it. I now make homemade goats milk soap and Anne Marie likes to dabble in cheese making. Boy do we love that Feta. Yum!
We have been showing heavily again the last 4 years and have done quite well. This past year I took 3 does to the Nationals in Louisville. I came home with 2nd place five year old with 2nd udder - Thanks Kameo. In the 2 year old class Mimsy was 4th and in the 4 year old class Shasta did a very respectable 16th against strong competition. All three does together made up the 3rd place Best Three Females.
For 2012, Anne Marie and I will be back on DHIR with the Nubians and Lamanchas. I love milky does and am looking forward to being able to share their successes with everyone.
If you're interested in a quality Nubian buckling or doeling, or even the rare milking doe, please contact me.
